Jeff is a local business owner, husband and father of three. He is also running for a seat on the Revere Board of Education.
As I was contemplating throwing my hat into the ring, a mutual friend suggested I meet with Jeff, who was considering his own potential run for election. Over a lunch of shakshuka and mussels, I learned about Jeff's Bath upbringing, his experience at Revere as a student athlete, his career that provided incredible experiences and opportunities, and the sequence of events that led him back to his childhood home. His story parallels mine in so many ways: foundations formed in this community, fortunes found elsewhere, and then a return to where it all started to provide the same foundations for our children.
What struck me most at that first meeting was Jeff's deep compassion for people. He approaches every conversation with kindness and grace. He leads with an authenticity and a positivity that is magnetic. He is strong in his convictions, but open-minded and confident enough to carefully listen to other points of view.
Even though we have shared parallel paths, Jeff and I are very different people. We each have our own unique skill sets and experiences to draw from. We had different upbringings, and our world views each have their own lens. We both expect that at some point, we will find ourselves challenging each other on an issue. To be honest, I think we are kind of looking forward to that - an opportunity to engage in thoughtful, respectful civil discourse.
At our core, Jeff and I share a common motivation:
To do all we can to set students up for success
To listen and learn from different perspectives and points of view
To keep politics and personal agendas out of critical school decisions
To lead from our hearts
Jeff is passionate about making the world a better place. Go learn all you can about who he is and what he stands for at www.bowlerforboard.com
